During this past year, a new organization known as the 87th
Infantry Division "Legacy" Association was formed
primarily to keep before our Country the World War II record
of the 87th Infantry Division. Of course, other outstanding
institutions such as the Army Heritage and Education Center
are available to archive mementos, photographs and documents.
The Legacy Association, however, is devoted specifically to
the history of the 87th Infantry Division.
It was established in response to a favorable motion by the
veteran members of the 87th Infantry Division Association
at the 2006 reunion business meeting. This formally expressed
interest in a legacy organization provided the impetus for
its creation.
Membership in this organization is open to veterans and their
families and any other interested parties who share a profound
respect for the significant contributions of the 87th Infantry
Division. No organization can take the place of the 87th ID
Association and certainly that is not the intent of the Legacy
Association.
Legacy Association officers will work closely with the leadership
of the 87th Infantry Division Association as the original
association begins the process of deactivation. The intent
of the Legacy Association is to serve as an ongoing information
resource for its members and others and provide sponsorship
for various programs and activities as appropriate.
Organizational activities including incorporation and application
for Federal not for profit status are now actively in process.
During the last reunion in Carlisle, PA, the official name
of the organization was adopted and officers were selected.
Legacy officers met with the 87th ID Executive Committee and
attended the general business meeting.
Your membership and involvement in the
Legacy Association is invited
